THE SHADDOX BOYS

Jacob and Elijah Shaddox are brothers. They live with their mom, Mary, who is the writer of this blog. Jacob is 19 and is now four inches taller than his mom! He also has ADHD and gorgeous red hair. He is a freshman at a technical college studying computer maintenance. Elijah is 15! He is in 9th grade and he is not in ROTC at his high school. He also had red hair, but it is lighter and not as thick as his brother's hair. He is hearing impaired(auditory neuropathy) and wears two cochlear implants. He also has tourette syndrome, ADHD, OCD and anxiety! Mary just started her 25th year as a teacher of the deaf. She is also in her last semester of graduate school to be a diagnostician! She will graduate in December of 2015!

Going to the Orthodontist

Well, tomorrow is the day that I am taking both boys to the orthodontist. I just finally decided it had to be done. I have got to be the MOM and take care of this. Elijah will have two phases of braces most likely. His top pallatte is behind bottom pallette and pushing his bottom front teeth out. We have been able to put it off some due to his slow growth. His dentist had said we had time. He will most likely have to wear head gear to pull that top pallette forward. Later he will need a second set of braces to straighten his teeth. He has a small mouth considering all the teeth he has. I have put this off, due to his anxiety and behavior. I am hoping this goes well tomorrow.

I am not sure how things will go for Jacob. He is almost 14 so it is about the right age for braces. He will hopefully be like most kids and just need the "typical" braces.

I remember wearing braces and it is not a fun experience, especially in the beginning. Tomorrow is just a consultation. Wish me luck!!

  1. Braces time ! My son just had braces two years ago. Good thing he had a good dentist. In Hattiesburg ms, I remember we visited there for 6 months for two years. He said having braces was fun. He could even change designs during retainer days. I just can't forget how good times rolled in Hattiesburg. Dentist-Sunday visit times were one of the best days that we were together. Now he's in college and we only see each other during Spring breaks.

Your brother reminds me of my eldest son. Thanks so much!

Oh well. I know that your braces would turn out good. Good Luck!

  2. You are a responsible mom to your sons, and you should be appreciated for being just that! :-) Taking them to the orthodontist is for their own good. I hope wearing braces helped improve the appearance of their teeth. How are you and the boys now? You have a beautiful family.
